Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp (30 mL) onion, finely chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) butter

  • 1 cup (250 mL) ketchup

  • 1 cup (250 mL) tomato sauce

  • 12 cup (125 mL) Truvía® calorie-free sweetener spoonable*

  • 12 cup (125 mL) red wine vinegar

  • 14 cup (50 mL) molasses

  • 12 tsp (2.5 mL) chili powder

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) paprika

  • 12 tsp (2.5 mL) salt

  • 12 tsp (2.5 mL) black pepper

  • 18 tsp (.625 mL) cinnamon

  • 12 tsp (2.5 mL) cayenne powder

  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tsp (10 mL) liquid smoke (optional)

Variations

  • Replace red wine vinegar with another version such as apple cider.

  • For more heat, add your favorite chilies or ground peppers.

Directions

  • 1.

    Sauté onion and garlic in butter in medium saucepan.

  • 2.

    In a separate small bowl, stir together the remaining ingredients.

  • 3.

    Add to saucepan; simmer for 30 minutes. For thinner sauce, reduce cook time, and for thicker sauce increase cook time.

  • 4.

    For best results, refrigerate overnight before use.
