Red Sangria with Truvía® Calorie-Free Sweetener

Ingredients

Spiced Simple Syrup (makes 1 cup)

  • 1 cup (250 mL) water
  • 14 cup (50 mL) Truvía® calorie-free sweetener spoonable*
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 6 whole black peppercorns, crushed

Sangria

  • 1 bottle (750 mL) red wine
  • 34 cup (175 mL) spiced simple syrup (recipe above)
  • 3 cups (750 mL) sparkling water
  • Juice of 1 orange (about 14 cup) (50 mL)
  • 1 orange, sliced thinly
  • 1 lemon, sliced thinly
  • 1 lime, sliced thinly
  • 2 cups (500 mL) ice cubes

Directions

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a medium saucepot, stir.
  2. Place on high heat, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat, allow to cool completely.
  4. Pour syrup through a strainer to remove spices.
  5. Pour syrup into a jar with lid and store refrigerated. Shake before using.
  6. Combine wine, 3⁄4 cup (175 mL) spiced simple syrup, sparkling water, orange juice and fruit slices.
  7. Stir briskly.
  8. Serve over ice in large red wine glasses.

*This sangria has 80 calories and 1 gram of sugar per serving compared to 140 calories and 12 grams of sugar per serving in the full-sugar version.
