Date Bars with Truvía® Calorie-Free Sweetener

This recipe combines the wholesome goodness of oats and the rich, succulent flavour of dates. Made with Truvía® calorie-free sweetener, these bars have 50% less sugar** than the full-sugar version. Makes 25 Bars.

Ingredients

Crust/Topping

  • 2 cups (500 mL) old-fashioned oats

  • 2 cups (500 mL) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) cinnamon

  • 34 cup (175 mL) unsalted butter, softened

  • 12 tsp (2.5 mL) salt

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

  • 13 cup (50 mL) of Truvía® calorie-free sweetener spoonable*

*or 18 packets Truvía® Calorie-Free Sweetener

Filling

  • 3 cups (750 mL) dates, chopped

  • 3 Tbsp (45 mL) of Truvía® calorie-free sweetener spoonable***

  • 1 cup (250 mL) water

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract

***or 12 packets Truvía® Calorie-Free Sweetener

Directions

  • 1.

    Place oats, flour, cinnamon, butter, salt, vanilla and Truvía® calorie-free sweetener in bowl and mix at low speed for 1 minute

  • 2.

    Scrape sides of bowl, mix on medium speed for 2 minutes

  • 3.

    Portion two-thirds of oat mixture into a greased 9” (23 cm) square pan; set aside remaining one-third of mixture for topping

  • 4.

    Press oat mixture into bottom of pan to form crust

  • 5.

    For filling: cook the dates, Truvía® calorie-free sweetener and water in a medium saucepan on low heat for 10 minutes or until the dates begin to soften. Stir in vanilla. Spread over pressed oat mixture

  • 6.

    Crumble remaining oat mixture over the filling

  • 7.

    Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 35-40 minutes until golden brown

**This date bar has 170 calories and 11 grams of sugar per serving as compared to 210 calories and 22 grams of sugar per serving in the full-sugar version.
